Accounting Manager

Job Description:

A leading art gallery representing many of the most significant international artists and estates of the 20th and 21st centuries seeks to hire an Accounting Manager for their New York City location.

Founded over 50 years ago, our client has been a constant, vital force in the art world and has introduced many renowned artists’ work to the public for the first time. Over the past five decades, the gallery has mounted more than 700 exhibitions, including scholarly shows that have subsequently traveled to museums, and has published nearly 400 exhibition catalogs. Today they have eight locations worldwide: four in New York, and galleries in London, Beijing, Hong Kong and Menlo Park, California.

In this hands on position the Accounting Manager will have overall responsibility for leading and managing the payables process, the payroll function for the US and its subsidiaries, supporting the month end close, and performing various accounting reconciliation and analysis to support external audits and cash management. This role will closely interface with the Sales Accounting and Dealer departments for the payment of artist and consignor settlement payments, as well as, the management of internal requests for vendor payments. The role is dynamic in nature due to the decentralized and fast pace of the sales function. The ability to be flexible and manage multiple priorities at once is critical. One key goal is to develop and implement an automated travel expense system and help implement a more efficient payables process.

This role will also directly support the payroll process providing guidance to the Payroll Accountant, reviewing and approving the payroll submissions, and preparing various payroll related analysis for audits and tax reporting. There will be close coordination with the HR Manager on all payroll/401K issues.

Additionally, the ideal applicant will be able to broaden the role and support other functions within the accounting department including improving processes and procedures.
